My Story

Katherine Rhadans lives in Kansas City with her husband, Matthew, and their five children. In 2022, she launched the Instagram account @katrhadans (formerly @no.wine.in.the.carpool.line) to offer honesty, hope, and humor to women trying to navigate sobriety. It has since grown into a community of over 34,000 engaged followers. Her work has been featured on television, (Including Wake up With Marci on CBS Saturday Morning), in podcasts such as Sobah Sistahs with Megan Wilcox, and in both national and international publications, including articles published in Low No Drinker Magazine.  As a trusted brand ambassador, Kat has partnered with alcohol-free and low-alcohol brands worldwide, becoming a recognizable voice in the low- and no-alcohol space. In January 2025, Kat celebrated 11 years of continuous sobriety.

No one could have predicted the challenges Katherine would face later in life. After falling in love, marrying, and having three children, her first marriage began to fall apart. Rather than working through their struggles as a couple, her husband chose a different path—one that didn’t include her. Heartbroken and unable to cope with the collapse of her marriage, Katherine turned to alcohol to escape her pain.

The following 18 months marked the most difficult period of her life. Her husband left, gaining custody of their children and leaving Katherine grappling not only with the loss of her family but also with the tightening grip of addiction. For Katherine, who had dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mother, losing her children was devastating. At her lowest point, she struggled to find a reason to go on.

Katherine credits the unwavering support of her father, and later, her husband Matthew, with helping her begin the climb out of alcoholism. Before his passing, Katherine’s father encouraged her to write about her experience. He believed her story could serve as a lifeline for other women, particularly mothers, suffering silently from alcohol use disorder. Katherine took that advice to heart, channeling her recovery into her writing and her mission.

Today, Katherine is passionate about speaking openly and honestly about addiction and recovery, particularly among mothers. She has dedicated her life to challenging the stigma surrounding women who struggle with alcoholism.

Kat Rhadans

While society often turns a blind eye to alcohol abuse in fathers, it harshly condemns mothers in the same situation. Mothers battling addiction are frequently labeled as “bad mothers,” and Katherine is determined to change this narrative. She believes these women deserve compassion and understanding, not shame.

Katherine’s book is a testament to her resilience and a call to action for societal change. It is written for all the women out there, especially mothers, who feel trapped in silence. It’s for the women who never imagined themselves in such a battle, and for those who are judged unfairly for their struggles. Above all, Katherine’s story is a message of hope and empowerment.  Her book is a guide.

Kat Rhadans

Beyond her writing, Katherine has built a strong presence in the recovery community. She is a regular guest on podcasts, where she shares her story and advocates for addiction awareness and recovery support. With over 34,0000 followers on social media, Katherine has cultivated an engaged audience who turn to her for honesty, humor, encouragement, and practical insights about sobriety and motherhood.

In May of 2025, Kat was a featured speaker at Sober in Bandera, a nationwide women’s recovery retreat celebratingconnection, growth, and empowerment.  She has since deepened her ties to the Alcoholics Anonymous community in Southern California, where she continues to share her story through speaking engagements and collaborative projects that ampilfy hope, healing, and authentic recovery.

NO WINE IN THE CARPOOL LINE: A STEP-BY-STEP JOURNEY TOWARD SOBRIETY, SANITY, and SELF-WORTH is more than a personal story-it’s a lifeline for the woman who looks like she has it all together but is quietly unraveling. Kat writes the everyday moms, the PTA presidents, the stay-at-home wives-the ones who’ve been told addiction doesn’t look like them. She’s here to challenge the shame, rewrite the narrative, and help women finally see themselves in a story of recovery.

“No Wine in the Carpool Line is a page-turner—and I didn’t want it to end. I haven’t stopped thinking about the gut-wrenching story Rhadans tells and the enormous struggle that alcoholism is, but her book is proof that there is light at the end of the tunnel. A courageous and triumphant journey! Bravo!”
